Forgot XP administrator passwords - 2007/06/29 23:51 Hello everyone.

My sister was on my pc while I was away and she's not smart with computers and she changed all my passwords, for the main admin account, and administrator; I was wondering if there is anyway I can find out what they are? or delete the account without having the reinstall windows. I'm on a guest's account right now but I can't really do anything with it.

So if someone could please help I would be greatful.
Please and thankyou.

Re:Forgot XP administrator passwords - 2007/06/29 23:59 Hello Travis,

There's a hidden administrator account in Windows which you may be able to use to get access to your computer.

  1. Boot to Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key while booting

  2. Choose Safe Mode, Press Enter

  3. Select operating system (usually the first option), Press Enter

  4. Click "Administrator" account

  5. Windows is running in Safe Mode, click Yes

  6. At the Safe Mode Desktop, click Start, Control Panel

  7. Double click User Accounts. Here you can delete accounts, delete/change passwords, etc.

  8. Restart Computer

Let me know if this works for you, if not there are a couple of other things we can try.

If you'd prefer one of our qualified engineers came to fix the problem, it'll be covered under our standard diagnostic service. Please call or e-mail us to arrange an appointment.

Kind Regards,

Re:Forgot XP administrator passwords - 2007/06/30 00:42 Hi again Travis,

Are there any other user accounts on the system which have Administrator privileges? If so, you can log in using one of those accounts and reset the passwords on the other accounts.

Something else you could do is restore a previous system state if you have Windows configured to save these. Roll back to a time before the passwords changed.

There's also Peter Nordahl's Offline NT Password & Registry editor which will do the trick, you'll need to burn the ISO to a CD and boot off it, but be very careful as you could lose data.

If you'd prefer, we can reset your administrator passwords for you as part of our standard diagnostic service. Please give us a call or e-mail to arrange an appointment.

Kind regards,
Gareth
