Re:Help!! Ultimate Defender Spyware Removal proble - 2007/09/27 15:52
Hi Arthur,
Ultimate Defender is a rogue anti-spyware program developed by a Russian group. Unfortunately a lot of anti-spyware software is a scam designed to cause more problems than it solves.
Ultimate Defender usually installs itself through flaws in Internet Explorer, so just by visiting a web page (or even a webpage with an advert for Ultimate Defender!) you may infect your computer unknowingly.
Make sure you have Windows Update enabled so your operating system is always downloading the latest security patches from Microsoft.
Ultimate Defender is one of the worst spyware programs around as it's a pain to remove. You need to download SMITFraud for free from http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe.
Then reboot your computer into Safe Mode (a backdoor setup mode built into Windows for making changes to the system, press F8 when booting to get into Safe Mode on most versions of Windows) and execute the SmitfraudFix.exe program.
Select option 2 (Clean (SafeMode Recommended)) and it will scan and clean your system, which takes a while. It will then run a Disk Cleanup and ask you a series of questions about whether you want to clean your registry or replace infected files. Select "Y" for all of them.
Once your computer reboots you should be free of spyware! Be sure to install security updates, use a virus scanner and be careful about downloading free software off the Internet.
If the above is a bit technical and you need help with the fix, please don't hesitate to call me on 1-800-914-5154 to schedule a Spyware Removal appointment and I can fix the problem for you in less than an hour.
Kind regards, Gareth.
